THE MUSEUM AT DUMBARTON OAKS \ Washington, DC
Exhibition Design + Social Media Design + Graphic Design + Management

A Beautiful Dichotomy: Contrasting Pre-Columbian Peruvian Ceramics, featured a selection of stunning ancient works drawn from a Washington DC private collection.

The exhibition organized the selected pieces into 8 pairs of visual themes, with each pair contrasting pieces from the two visual traditions. Custom mounts and purposeful positioning allowed dramatic interaction between the individual pieces as well as across the group, resulting in a dynamic experience for the visitor. Contemporary and minimal design decisions – including a single color for gallery walls, cases, and graphic backgrounds – was selected to put all visual focus on the vibrant presence of the objects themselves.

An exhibition catalogue was created to accompany the display. Four custom covers provided an opportunity to feature multiple objects for which custom photography was produced. Using fold-out pages, the design worked to mimic the experience of the exhibition, offering opportunities for multiple object views.
